The visiting West Coast Kings used five pitchers and a steady offensive attack to down the Colt 45s 10-2 at Tiger Field Saturday night.
The Bay Area squad, playing its first game of the summer collegiate season, scored three runs in the first off starter Nick Schroedle, who scattered ten hits over five innings of work, allowing seven runs, three of which were earned. The lefty (1-1) struck out four and walked two.
The Kings used five pitchers, the first four pitching two innings each, to keep the Colt 45s hitters off stride. Jon Little (1-0) was the third of those pitchers, allowing two unearned runs to earn the win. The Colt 45s (3-2) had only six hits on the night, including Brendan Roop’s two out, two run double in the fifth, scoring Nick Horsley and Andy Beyene. Beyene went 1-2, extending his club-leading hitting streak to four games. Roop was the club’s most effective reliever, throwing three innings of one hit relief, striking out one in his first mound appearance of the season.
